If you’re already impressed by the benefits of the Fire Safety Stick but unsure which model is best for you, we’re here to help. We offer two main models: the FSS50 and the FSS100. However, did you know that there are also variations of these models? These variations are designed to provide tailored solutions depending on the environment or location in which you plan to use or store them.
While the following are just guidelines, they can serve as helpful suggestions for typical installations. The information provided aims to help you choose the option that best suits your needs.
FSS50 or FSS100: Which Discharge Time is Right for You?
Both models operate in exactly the same way and share very similar dimensions. However, the FSS100 is slightly longer and weighs just a few grams more. The key difference lies in the discharge time, allowing you to select the model that aligns with your specific requirements.
In most situations, provided you are dealing with a small fire (as advised for all hand-held extinguishers) directing the nozzle towards the fire should extinguish it quickly, subject to various situational variables. In such cases, the FSS50 would be a suitable choice.
If the fire is within a contained space and has become too large to tackle safely, then the Fire Safety Stick can be activated and left behind while you escape to safety. The FSS100 gives much more time discharging the vapours into that confined space, continuing to repress the fire and slowing down spread while you await the emergency services.
The FSS100 may be preferred in specific scenarios, such as on marine boats where safeguarding against engine fires is critical, or for protecting high-value items like agricultural vehicles, classic cars or vehicles used in motorsport. However, for most home installations, the FSS50 is the ideal choice.
For the vast majority of cases in the domestic market, the regular FSS50 and FSS100 are just perfect. These still come with a free mounting clip to fix securely to a wall, inside a cupboard door or wherever is close to hand in an emergency.
But what if it’s going into a van or other heavier duty vehicle, mounted on agricultural equipment, within a motorsport vehicle, on boats and even some campers and motorhomes that are likely to see rougher terrain?
The Utility or Agri (Agriculture) packs will be much more suitable.
With the extra mounting clip, these provide some extra security for mounting (as well as avoiding the vibration of the stick when fitted directly to the vehicle body with a single clip).
Importantly, they also ensure the bottom striker cap is not lost, as it is tethered with a tamper tag to the handle.
If you are looking for a version of the Fire Safety Stick that can be incorporated into a business environment, for example a commercial fleet, this is the variation that you need.
Here, the Utility/Agri pack version (with the fitted tamper tag and extra mounting clip) are added to with suitable signage, as well as an installation date sticker on the handle and an inspection check sticker on the tamper tag. A free download of the Fire Safety Stick Inspection Log is also included. This log sheet allows the responsible person to carry out regular visual checks to maintain the sticks so that they remain fit to be used throughout their 15 year-plus life span.
This spec is required for any non-domestic or commercial applications: For example, any installation where the FSS may be used by people other than the owner or their family. This could be a holiday-let or Air BnB. Also, in commercial or company vehicles.
