Fire Safety in the Countryside
A wide range of fire risks affect Agricultural, Equestrian and camping vehicles. These risks can be tricky to guard against where space constraints make it difficult to carry bulky traditional extinguishers within easy reach. Fires in the countryside can lead to damaged machinery, lost crops, and of course lost revenue. In 2019 alone, £19 million was paid out on fire-related claims by one rural insurer.
The Fire Safety Stick is an ideal solution to help reduce these risks as part of your fire safety toolkit, enabling a rapid response to small, early-stage fires before they have a chance to take hold. Fire Safety Stick is small and light enough to be held in one hand, weighing in at only 216g or 365g, depending on the version. It can be mounted inside the vehicle within arm’s reach, without creating an obstruction or taking up valuable space. Certified for fire classifications A, B, C, Electrical up to 100,000V and F, its versatility means that valuable seconds are not lost in determining whether it’s the correct type of extinguisher to use. It is safe to breathe in a confined space, environmentally friendly and leaves no residue after discharge, so will not create any extra damage or mess over and above that created by the fire. It uses a vapour to suppress the fire, which can weave into the hard-to-reach areas of a vehicle, e.g. behind grilles, up inside panelling or underneath the vehicle. For fires in a confined space, the Fire Safety Stick can be activated and left behind to continue to repress the fire, potentially slowing spread whilst the occupant escapes to safety, takes any secondary actions that may be required and awaits emergency services.
Two versions of Fire Safety Stick – both with the same size and portability benefits – give impressive discharge times of either 50 or 100 seconds. These units are not pressurised and contain a solid resin rather than powders or gases, meaning no risk of accidental discharge, no need for annual professional servicing (although regular visual checks are recommended) and an incredible 15-year shelf-life. Plus, durability like no other: You can drop it, drill it, cut it and still repress a fire.
How It Works
The Fire Safety Stick (FSS) is a manual, portable fire extinguishing device. It uses a tested and proven technology, created for the space programme, that fights fires on the molecular level by chemically capturing the oxygen of the flame, making it unavailable to feed the fire and breaking the chain of combustion. (It does not affect the breathing ability of anyone in the vicinity).
Fire Safety Stick is composed of stable, solid minerals; it does not contain gas and is not pressurised. The aerosol-like jet is only produced when the charger is struck with its base, triggering a chemical reaction.
